Council Passes Golf Cart Ordinance

Golf carts may be operated on the streets, roads and alleys within the City limits but not on any roadway with a speed limit in excess of 30 miles per hour. Golf carts can cross those streets but they cannot operate on those roadways.

Golf Cars shall only be operated on the streets during the hours between sunrise and sunset. They must be equipment with lights as required by law for motorcycles and they must have a properly mounted slow-moving vehicle emblem on them.

Prior to operating a golf cart on City streets and alleys. They must have proper registration from the Moundridge Police Department. There will be a $15 registration fee. The Police Department will inspect the golf cart to assure they are equipped with sufficient brakes, head lights, tail and brake lights, turn signals, review mirror and display a slow moving vehicle sign on the back. Proof of Insurance is also required for registration. A proof of registration sticker will be issued if the cart passes the inspection.

Every operator of a golf cars shall have proof of liability insurance in their possession. They must also possess a valid Kansas drivers license.

No golf cart shall carry more than two occupants per bench seat and in any event no more than four passengers, including the driver.

Golf Carts shall not be operated or parked on any sidewalk within the City.

The ordinance also prohibits the operation of pocket bikes and motorized scooters which are defined as a vehicle consisting of a foot board between two mall end wheels, controlled by an upright steering handle attached to the front wheel.
